Jessica Sorensen, The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden - Review

Jessica Sorensen, The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden - Review

There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.

Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.

For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.

Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.

“In the existence of our lives, there is a single coincidence that brings us together and for a moment, our hearts beat as one.”

I have always been a HUGE Jessica Sorensen fan, I was first introduced to her by her paranormal series such as The Fallen Star series and I must say her venture into New Adult is a welcomed delight and something I absolutely love. As soon as I found out about this book the blurb and cover blew me away.

The first thing I want to praise about this book is the way the POV are clean and clear, you always know whose turn it is. In some books this can become confusing where as Jessica sets the POV's out chapter by chapter and this makes it an all together

Callie and Kayden have both has an incredibly troubled past, filled with secrets that have literally made their lives a living hell. There only chance at a fresh start and a new beginning comes when it is time to head off to collage and finally do something they want to do with their lives.

“Life is full of luck, like getting dealt a good hand, or simply by being in the right place at the right time. Some people get luck handed to them, a second chance, a save. It can happen heroically, or by a simple coincidence , but there are those who don’t get luck on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.”

Callie has gone to collage to escape a traumatic event that happened when she was young, since then she has been a shell of herself and doing everything in her power to make herself disappear and blend in. Her wardrobe consists of baggy clothing and her hair is self cut into a short messy semi-style.

"The day I changed is like a scar. It's there, a memory in my mind, something I always remember, and can never erase."

Callie has had only one memorable encounter with Kayden, too bad only she remembers it. Seeing him at her collage is a shock to her system she was certain her past was left behind and now a member of it is here in the present.

Kayden can't wait to start collage and get a fresh break away from his father and everything that has happened at home, Collage will give him a chance to grow and become the man he wants to be. The last thing he expected to see what a girl he faintly remembers with an entirely new image.

Callie and Kayden start off with an awkward tension int he air but it doesn't take long for the tension to take on a different form with a slightly sexual edge. Kayden begins feeling protective of Callie, he can tell she has many demons in her past and he wants nothing more then to help her overcome them.

“… from the few moments I've spent with her, I've felt everything too much… she makes me feel things I’m not used to; the dirty dreams, the protectiveness, the way my stupid heart starts to beat like it’s finally alive.”

This book has amazing characters and and a plot that keeps on giving, just when you think there are no surprises left something amazing happens and shocks the living daylights out of you but int he best and most exciting way possible.

This is a book everyone should own, in fact I think every book Jessica has written is worth a read I thoroughly enjoy her diversity and ability to tell an amazing story as well as bring her characters to life.

"Life is full of luck, like getting dealt a good hand, or simply by being in the right place at the right time. Some people get luck handed to them, a second chance, a save. It can happen heroically, or by simple coincidence, but there are those who don't get luck on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don't get saved."

5.5/5 stars! And I am practically buzzing waiting for the second book.
